Skin banking is a facility where the skin is collected from eligible deceased donor and processed as per international protocols. Skin can be stored in the skin bank at 4-8o Celsius up to 5 years. The stored skin can be used for Burns Patient.
Rotary Club of Khadki, a part of District 3131 of Rotary International, proposed the idea of setting up Pune’s first skin bank. The Skin Bank was inaugurated on 13th February 2012 at the hands of Dr Welsly Bodha, Director, Euro Skin Bank. The Skin Bank, located at Surya Hospital, is Pune’s first and India’s 4th Skin bank.
This Skin bank has the Technical Support from ERN – ie Euro Sink Bank, Rotary Club of Bombay North and the National Burns Centre, Airoli
With the number of burns cases in India at an alarming high rate, we expect that, many lives will be saved, of burns patients, who presently cannot survive, for want of donor skin. It will also help provide relief to a much larger number of patient
We request one and all to pledge their skin, and also request the family members of the person who has just passed away, to donate his skin, and join in this noble cause.
